Tom Ervin was a nationally syndicated real estate columnist for twenty years and the author of four books dealing with the real estate brokerage business. He founded seven companies during his business career. He and his wife, Nancy, have six children and reside in the Detroit area.

He was driven to write VICTORY as the result of his once-in-a-lifetime thrill of racing as a first timer in the fastest Bayview Mackinac Race in history.

While writing of his own experience aboard VENOM, a J105, he realized that there were no others books available about any of the 81 races conducted. So, he decided to interview many other people who have sailed in the Bayview Mackinac Race throughout its long storied past.
